US Secretary of Labor Visits Great Oaks Career Campus

September 18, 2020 6:09 PM | Anonymous

During a trip to Ohio on Sept. 17, U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia visited Great Oaks Career Campuses, which specializes in career and technical education for both high school students and adults. Over 30 career programs are available for high school students living in 36 area school districts. While there, Sec. Scalia participated in a roundtable discussion with local business leaders and educators regarding workforce development and economic growth.

The Secretary had traveled to Cincinnati to discuss economic recovery, workplace safety, and the steps needed to develop a skilled, dynamic workforce. Secretary Scalia visited Consolidated Metals, where he met company leadership and employees and discussed the economic re-opening.

Representatives from P&G, Nehemiah Manufacturing, Perfetti Van Melle, the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, JTM Food Group, KUTOL, and DPA Buying Group discussed the impact of COVID-19 on their business and on the region.

“It was great to be back in Ohio and see the progress being made in safely re-opening our economy,” said U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia. “I was pleased to visit Consolidated Metals Products and learn about the steps they’ve taken to provide jobs and bring Americans back to work. I would also like to thank Great Oaks for hosting a valuable conversation on business growth, safe workplaces, and equipping workers with the skills needed for good-paying, meaningful jobs.”

The mission of the Department of Labor is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights.
