     Professional Development Offerings

As the year winds down, we are pleased and excited to offer one more virtual professional development series supporting our SuccessBound Initiative.  Talent Tuesdays will feature nationally renowned speaker Dr. Kevin Fleming as well as some unique collaborative efforts in Central Ohio.  Our meeting dates are May 11, 18, & 25 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am.  There will be 2 one-hour sessions each Tuesday.  Click TALENT for a promotional brochure that you can print or share.  Click REGISTER to sign up for these free offerings.  There is only one registration document.  Choose the session(s) you wish to attend.  You will receive a Zoom link for each session the Friday before.

    Talent Tuesday
    Tuesday, May 18, 2021

    9:00 am - 10:00 am
Michael Edelman, ideastream - "American Graduate: Getting to Work"
Their informative videos are created to inspire young adults to know they are not alone on the journey to find employment and will provide encouragement and paths to resources available to build careers in in-demand workforce areas.

    10:00 am - 11:00 am
    Sean McCutcheon, Knox ESC

Sean McCutcheon's role as "Career Navigator" is to work with students to make sure they are as informed and educated as possible about their post high school options.  Group presentations are complemented by one-on-one meetings.  Sean will be joined by Knox ESC Superintendent Dr. Timm Mackley and Centerburg High School Career and College Readiness teacher, Amy Burns.  Her students are the model for what they are striving for every student to be.  They are taught personal finance, career options, life skills, etc. from an early age.  They learn that college is not the only option and that there are multiple other post secondary pathways.

    Talent Tuesday
    Tuesday, May 25, 2021

    9:00 am - 10:00 am
Melanie Kitchen, Ohio Contractors Association - "Contractor Classroom Collaboration"
Melanie will demonstrate how a local association connects classrooms to their industry.

    10:00 am - 11:00 am
Dr. Kevin Fleming - "Becoming their First Choice"

For years you have forged partnerships, created pathways, and developed programs...yet we still have empty seats in our classes.  Many career & technical educational programs remain the "alternative" or "safety" option. Why doesn't everyone just "get it" already?  While we balance preparing students for both higher education and the workforce, it is time to shift our messaging.  We need to (re)define the goal and (re)examine why the tipping point still has not yet occurred towards pathways, industry credentials, career readiness, and the pursuit of gainful employment.
It's time to become their first choice.
